Arada Canyon Day Trip
1 days

Arada Canyon, ZigZag Canyon, Hedoda Sand Dune, Makhroum Cave, Rock Inscriptions

Day 1

Pick up from your hotel at 8 am. We will drive for about one hour on the road and half an hour off-road to have a look at a tableau of ancient rock inscriptions in Wadi Arada. These inscriptions depict Bedouin daily life. We then continue for 10 minutes through Wadi Arada to the beginning of Arada Canyon. We'll hike for about an hour in the canyon. You need to be reasonably fit to do this, as there is some climbing involved. After the canyon, we will drive for about 15 minutes to ZigZag canyon, where our driver will prepare lunch while you explore the canyon with your guide. After lunch, we'll drive through the desert for about one hour for an amazing view from the top of Hedoda Sand dune. From there, we'll drive for about 10 minutes to the Makhroum Cave, where you climb a small sand dune, to go inside the 'eye of the dragon'. 'Makhroum Cave' is also known as Dragonhead mountain or the Mountain with the hole. We end our tour by visiting the rock of inscriptions near the Makhroum Cave. This tableau has a unique inscription of an ibex mom, looking at her calf who's drinking milk. This is a uniquely artistic expression that is rare in ancient rock art. From there we return to Dahab, where we arrive around 5 pm.
